Helmet maintenance

It's important to take good care of your helmet to ensure a longer and safer lifespan. We can distinguish three aspects when maintaining the helmet:

  • The outer shell

  • The visor

  • The inner lining

Cleaning the outer shell

One of the largest parts of a helmet and also the part most exposed to the elements. Regular maintenance is not only important to get the most out of your helmet's lifespan – it also feels good to ride with a nice clean helmet! When maintaining the outer shell, a distinction can be made between a glossy helmet and a matte helmet, so keep this in mind when looking for the right cleaning product.

In case of a glossy helmet, use Muc-Off Helmet & Visor Cleaner to quickly and safely remove dust, dirt, oil residues and flies from your helmet. The cleaner is based on demineralized water which is recommended by many helmet manufacturers. The cleaner is available in a small "to-go" version of 32 ml and a larger bottle of 250 ml.

In case of a matte helmet, use the Muc-Off Matt Helmet Detailer to make fingerprints and shiny areas a thing of the past! The detailer leaves a non-sticky, streak and shine-free protective finish, and the detailer is, like all Muc-Off products, biodegradable! Just like the cleaner, the detailer is available in a small "to-go" version of 32 ml, a larger bottle of 250 ml, and for the real fanatics: the 750 ml version.

Cleaning the visor

The visor is one of the most important parts of a helmet and should therefore also receive the maintenance it deserves. First things first: never wipe the visor with a paper towel. Always use a microfibre towel to prevent it from being scratched.

In addition, it's important to use the right products that don't discolor or make your visor dull. An easy and safe way to do this is with the Muc-Off Helmet & Visor Cleaner. The cleaner is based on demineralized water which is recommended by many helmet manufacturers. The cleaner is, like all Muc-Off products, biodegradable! It's available in a small "to-go" version of 32 ml and a larger bottle of 250 ml.

Cleaning the inner lining

The inner liner is the part that's in contact with your skin. It absorbs sweat, resulting in an unpleasant odor in your helmet over time.

With Muc-Off's Foam Fresh you can clean the inner lining of your helmet super effectively and easily and refresh it again! The foam expells dirt from the surface and leaves a fresh lemony scent. Spray a little of the Foam in your helmet and let it dissolve by itself, it won't get any easier! In addition, you can also use the Foam Fresh for other soft materials that come into contact with your skin such as shoes, boots, jacket lining, and gloves.

PSSTT there is also a Helmet Care Kit available that contains the Helmet, Visor & Goggle Cleaner, the Foam Fresh, Anti Fog Treatment and a Microfibre cloth!
