Helmet Maintenance

It is important to properly maintain your helmet to ensure a longer and safer life. When maintaining the helmet, we can distinguish three aspects:

The outer shell, the visor and the inner lining.

The outer shell

One of the largest parts of a helmet and also the part exposed to the elements. So regular maintenance is important to extend the life of your outer shell in addition to the fact that it is nice to have a shiny clean helmet! When maintaining the outer shell, there is a distinction to be made between a shiny helmet and matte helmet, so attention should be paid to this when finding the right cleaner.

For a shiny helmet, use the Muc-Off Helmet & Visor Cleaner to quickly and safely remove dust, dirt, oil residues and flies from your helmet. The cleaner is demineralized water based which is recommended by many helmet manufacturers. The cleaner is available in a small to-go version of 32ml and a larger home version of 250ml.

With a matte helmet, use the Muc-Off Matt Helmet Detailer to make fingerprints and shiny areas a thing of the past! The detailer leaves a non-sticky, streak and shine free protective finish in addition the detailer is biodegradable just like all Muc-Off products!

The Visor

The visor is one of the most important parts of a helmet and therefore should get the maintenance it deserves. Important to know is that you should never wipe the visor with a paper towel to avoid scratching it, so always use a microfiber cloth.

In addition, it is important to use the right agents that will not affect your visor and make it look dull or yellowish, for example. An easy and safe way to do this is by using the Muc-Off Helmet & Visor Cleaner. The cleaner is based on demineralized water which is recommended by many helmet manufacturers and, like all Muc-Off products, is biodegradable! The cleaner is available in a small 'to-go variant' of 32ml and a larger variant for at home of 250ml.

The Inner Shell

The inner lining is the part that is in contact with your skin. This causes sweat to be absorbed by the lining which over time results in a musty smell in your helmet.

With the Foam Fresh from Muc-Off you can clean and refresh the lining of your helmet super effectively and easily! This is because the foam expels dirt from the surface and leaves behind a fresh lemon scent. Spray a little of the Foam into your helmet and let it dissolve by itself, it won't get any simpler! In addition, you can also use the Foam Fresh for other soft materials that come in contact with your skin such as: shoes, boots, lining of your jacket and gloves.

PSSTT there is also a Helmet Care Kit available that includes the Helmet, Visor & Goggle Cleaner, the Foam Fresh, Anti Fog Treatment and a Microfiber cloth!
